Time for a new car. Alas Skoda, I knew ye less than a year. And it’s not that you’re bad, you do great empeegees and you’ve got lots of boot space and a bit of pace to boot, but you’re debilitated because of your afterthought emissions regulator and you have no soul.

So, what’s next?

Actually I’m reconsidering my rash post. A well reputed company will gut the DPF and do a remap to 215bhp and 450 torques for £669. The car may be soulless, but if I can fix the goddamn DPF saga then it’s still the absolute perfect car for what I want. I’ll let the Land Rovers be the cars with personality reliability character.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get the DPF flushed or something.

Is the DPF regenerating correctly?

Forced regen works fine, and the engine pulses and idles oddly when it’s doing it’s own regen so that’s right too. It’s down to the way I drive it, or rather, how far I drive it. The PD170 DPF was a bolt-on and never designed to work with said engine, and if the exhaust isn’t hot enough then those dirty particulates can’t be burnt off. Short journeys ping the DPF warning after maybe 3 or 4 trips, and considering I use the car to drive a 1.6 mile trip to my storage yard every morning and evening, I’m doing it absolutely no favours. A shitty design which is working out shittily for me.

That said, Shark will gut the DPF and remap +bhp/torques for £669, and I’m absolutely considering it even though I shouldn’t have to. The CR170 has none of these problems with its DPF btw. The DPF PD motors are awful for this across the VAG line up.

Cool. Just spoke to a Skoda tech about your issue and he said not to DPF flush but to put it in fourth year and rag th car for five miles, if the light stays on, turn off the ignition and turn it back on, if it’ still on after that then the DPF is shot.

But as you say short journeys aren’t letting the exhaust to heat up to do a regeneration and particles are building up.

Good luck with th remap.

I’ve been doing it differently actually, using info from Briskoda I get myself on the military road and sit at 3k rpm in 4th for about 15 mins and the light goes out. I don’t stress anything on the drive and definitely don’t drive it hard. It always works, but I’d rather not have to do it, nor worry about doing short journeys.

True. Short journeys are a diesels achillies.

Pretty sure that light means your muffler has rust holes. Either that or some enterprising degenerate has added speed holes to an unknown location on your car.
